Advance Pipeline Construction and Operation

BACKGROUND:
Onshore pipeline facilities play a strategic role in transporting hydrocarbons safely and efficiently from production fields to processing and distribution points. The success of a pipeline system is determined not only by its design quality, but also by the effectiveness of construction management practices and the reliability of day-to-day operations. Inadequate integration between design, construction, and operation phases often leads to integrity issues, production losses, safety incidents, and increased lifecycle costs.

This training is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of onshore pipeline facilities across the full project lifecycle, from engineering design, construction, commissioning, operation, to maintenance and integrity management. Through this program, participants will strengthen their technical competence, safety awareness, and operational readiness to ensure that pipeline assets are managed in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and best engineering practices.

OBJECTIVES:

• Understand the fundamental concepts of onshore pipeline facility design, construction, and operation.
• Apply engineering principles in route selection, material selection, hydraulic design, and stress analysis.
• Identify key construction methods, installation challenges, and quality control requirements for onshore pipelines.
• Implement safe and reliable operational practices for pipeline facilities and associated equipment.
• Apply pipeline integrity management, inspection, and corrosion control principles.
• Understand emergency response, leak detection, and environmental protection in pipeline operations.
• Comprehend the importance of project documentation and the handover process to the operation department.
• Enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency throughout the pipeline asset lifecycle.

1. Overview of Onshore Pipeline Facilities

  • Role of onshore pipelines in oil & gas value chain

  • Applicable codes, standards, and regulations (ASME, API, ISO)

2. Pipeline Design Fundamentals

  • Route selection and environmental considerations
  • Material selection and corrosion allowance
  • Hydraulic design and pressure profile
  • Stress, thermal, and mechanical load analysis

3. Pipeline Construction & Installation

  • Construction methods and installation sequence
  • Welding, coating, and field joint protection
  • Hydrostatic testing and pre-commissioning
  • Quality control and construction safety

4. Operation & Maintenance of Pipeline Facilities

  • Start-up, normal operation, and shutdown procedures
  • Pigging operations and flow assurance
  • Operation of static & rotating equipment at pipeline facilities
  • Routine inspection and maintenance practices

5. Pipeline Integrity Management (PIM)

  • Corrosion control and cathodic protection
  • In-line inspection (ILI) and monitoring techniques
