Flow Assurance for Pipeline System

BACKGROUND:

This course will provide an understanding of flow phenomena that can help the participants avoid problems such as hydrate formation, pressure (surge) waves, or high viscosity liquid flow failure. This intensive, four-day intermediate level course addresses several critical problems in achieving pipeline flow assurance. The focus of this course is on potential challenges to pipeline operations including: surge, corrosion, hydrate formation, wax deposition, multiphase fluids, and slugging. The causes for these problems, design solutions, and operational responses will be an integral part of the course.

OBJECTIVES:

After attending this training, Participants will be able to:

  • Assess the physical behavior of the key flow assurance and integrity challenges: corrosion, hydrate formation, transient behavior and wax deposition
  • Evaluate mechanical integrity of the pipeline
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of pigging operations and leak detection systems

  1. Introduction to oil and gas fluid transport properties,
  2. Fluid property data and phase determination,
  3. Fluid flow analysis single and multiphase,
  4. Slug formation and prediction,
  5. Surge analysis,
  6. Corrosion internal and external,
  7. Hydrate formation and prevention,
  8. Wax formation and deposition, including prevention and mediation,
  9. Asphaltene prediction, scale precipitation and sand production,
  10. Pigging operations,
  11. Leak detection methods and SCADA, Startup/ shutdown issues

ABOUT THE COURSE LEADER:

Prof. Endra Joelianto, Ir., Ph.D., SMIEEE

Prof. Endra Joelianto, Ir., Ph.D., SMIEEE is an internationally recognized expert in control engineering with a focus on industrial automation, hybrid control systems, and advanced process control. He received his Ph.D. in Control Engineering from The Australian National University and has extensive experience in teaching, research, and consultancy in the oil and gas industry.

As the coordinator of Intelligent Control and Automation at the Department of Engineering Physics, ITB, Prof. Joelianto has led numerous training programs and research projects related to PLC, DCS, and industrial automation. He has worked with prominent companies such as PT. NGL Arun, PERTAMINA, British Petroleum, and Maxus.

Prof. Joelianto’s expertise in pipeline flow assurance, control systems, and process optimization makes him uniquely qualified to lead this training. He has also conducted numerous in-house and public training sessions for top oil, gas, and petrochemical companies, sharing his extensive knowledge of flow assurance and pipeline integrity.
