Boiler Control Burner Management System

BACKGROUND:

The Boiler Control Burner Management System (BCBMS) is critical for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of industrial boilers in energy production facilities. These systems integrate advanced control technologies to optimize combustion processes, manage fuel-air ratios, and enhance energy efficiency while adhering to stringent safety standards. Proper understanding and management of BCBMS are essential to minimize risks such as boiler malfunctions, fuel wastage, and emissions non-compliance.

This training program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to operate, monitor, and maintain BCBMS effectively. By covering key principles of boiler operation, control mechanisms, and safety protocols, the training aims to enhance operational performance, reduce downtime, and ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.

OBJECTIVES:

Participant will be able to:

  • Understand the benefit of improved boiler process control and saving as result of improved efficiency 
  • Develop proper control system documentation
  • Apply principles and methods for flow level measurements to improved boiler operations
  • Specify appropriate strategies for flow, level and pressure control
  • Tuning of boiler control system
  • Implement analyzer measurements for improving boiler efficiency
  • Analyze basic control loops required for boiler operation
  • Apply control concept such as cascade, ratio and feedforward control for boiler control
  • Specify appropriate safety system interlocks
  •  Evaluate process requirement for writing instrumentation specifications
  • Understand the primary cause of furnace explosions
  • Use design basis documentation and flow sheet
  • Identify equipment needs for gas, oil, and pulverized coal system
  • Understand pre-firing purge requirements procedures for single and multiple burner systems
  • Implement flame failure protection for specific system 
  • Design alarms, interlock, and emergency shutdown system
  • Understand the function and use the burner front, operator interface, and logic system

  19. Tune a boiler control system for maximum efficiency and learn the effect to boiler tuning

ABOUT THE COURSE LEADER:

Jumanda Kasdadi (IJK) is a seasoned instructor with extensive experience in industrial training since 1997, delivering both in-house and public sessions. He conducted in-house training for an international copper mining company in Papua (1997–1998) and worked with the ITC (Industrial Training Center) company specializing in Field Instrumentation and Process Control. IJK also trained teams in chemical industries in Karawang (2007), focusing on Field Operations and Processing Units, as well as oil and gas companies in Palembang, Balikpapan, and Natuna (2006), covering Oil and Gas Processing, Equipment, and Control.

His expertise extends to training on Safety Aspects of Gas Operations for oil and gas companies in the Thousand Islands (2008) and delivering in-house training for major oil companies in Riau, Duri, Jambi, and Balikpapan in recent years. For public training, IJK and his team have facilitated over 200 sessions in locations including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Jogjakarta, Denpasar, Lombok, and Batam.

Beyond training, IJK has contributed to industry projects such as risk assessments for nine gas plants in South Sumatra and Natuna, process design for waste treatment laboratories in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi, and pipeline feasibility studies in the Malacca Strait and Batam. Internationally, he worked on the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) for an oil pipeline distribution project in Dili, Timor Leste (2015), and served as an instructor for Corrosion Control Management & Coating training for Titas Gas Company in Bangladesh (2016).
