Gas Hazard & Measurement

BACKGROUND:

Gas Hazard & Measurement is a training program designed to address gas as a highly flammable material, requiring special control and handling. A solid understanding of anticipating and measuring potential gas hazards is essential before utilizing it for various purposes. . Numerous fires, explosions, and poisoning incidents occur due to negligence in recognizing gas hazards. This training is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of gas hazards, the physical and chemical properties of various gases, and techniques for measuring potential dangers.

OBJECTIVES:

This training aims to:

  1. Equip participants with knowledge of workplace gas hazards, including toxic, flammable, and pressurized gases.
  2. Provide an understanding of techniques for measuring and detecting gas hazards using devices such as gas detectors and personal monitors.
  3. Train participants to understand preventive measures, including respiratory protection and the use of SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus).
  4. Enhance participants’ abilities to handle emergency situations such as gas leaks, fires, and explosions.

COURSE OUTLINE:

  1. Introduction to Gas Hazards: Gas pressure hazards, flammable gases, toxic gases, etc.
  2. H2S Gas Hazard: Physical and chemical properties of H2S, toxicity, flammability, etc.
  3. SO2 Gas Hazard: Physical and chemical properties of SO2, toxicity, flammability, etc.
  4. CO & CO2 Gas Hazard: Physical and chemical properties of CO & CO2, toxicity, flammability, etc.
  5. CH4 and Other Hydrocarbon Gas Hazards: Physical and chemical properties of CH4, flammability, etc.
  6. Gas Leaks, Fires, and Explosions: Fire triangle and tetrahedron; types and physical/chemical properties of fire and explosions, etc.
  7. BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion).
    UVCE (Unconfined Vapor Cloud Explosion).
  8. Measurement of Gas Hazards: Gas detection, gas sensors, personal gas monitors, etc.
  9. Respiratory Protection and SCBA: Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
  10. Fire Protection and Extinguishers.

About The Course Leader:

Ir. In Jumanda Kasdadi, MT

In addition to his duty as lecturer, Mr. Jumanda has delivered almost 280 trainings (public & in-house) in various types of industries, especially for oil and gas companies since 1997. He holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Chemical Engineering degrees from the Institute Technology Bandung. He has also taken courses for 9 topics in The Oil & Gas fields at PETEX (Petroleum Extension), University of Texas at Austin, in Houston, Texas, USA (2018).

Beyond his formal educations, he has many other professional certificates; Lecturer Certificate from Indonesia Minister of Education; Construction, Electrical and Fire Protection Certificates from HSE Association Indonesia (ALPK3); Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Facilitator, Instrumentation Engineering Design for Oil & Gas Project with INtools (Ref.No OGC01-170516200516-2839); HAZOPS and HAZID Certificates from Indonesia Certifying Agency (BNSP).

Companies where he delivered the training to are mostly major intensive capital such as Pertamina, PHE, PHI, PHR, PHKT, PGN, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Total Indonesie, CNOOC, Medco, Petrochina, Star Energy, Freeport, Mubadala, Indonesia Power, Geothermal Companies, KAI, US Consulate, Freeport, SKK Migas, Titas (Bangladesh), and petrochemical & mining and others.
